Centre for Research on London (CRL)

Director: Prof. Howard Tumber

The CRL is an independent research body based at City University London. Its function is to develop an information service and act as a clearing-house, commissioning and undertaking research in response to demand.

The concept for a centre focusing on research in London was initiated by Prof. Howard Tumber at City University London. Howard Tumber, together with Robin Thompson (co-author of the London Plan and consultant to the Greater London Authority), developed this concept and following a number of consultations and meetings with various stakeholders, prepared a prospectus. The Centre received funding from HEFCE's Innovation Fund, City University London, and ICAR (Information Centre about Asylum and Refugees), for its first pilot project entitled 'Research Asylum in London' (RAL), a web-site and database containing summaries of pieces of research on asylum and refugees issues in London.

After the successful development of RAL, the Centre secured further funding from HEFCE's Innovation Fund for its second pilot project, RCCIL.
